What Makes a Great Preschool Teacher?

I have heard many parents say “I can’t get little Johnny to write his name” or “Molly is so good for you!” What is a preschool teachers secret? Well, really she doesn’t have one other than she has an advantage because she is NOT their parent. Children are naturally inclined to behave better for others.

But, preschool teachers are special people. Not everyone is cut out to be your child’s teacher. It takes special traits, and a love for children. At Raising Arizona Preschool, we believe our teachers are special. We know what qualities it takes to make a great preschool teacher, and we hope you recognize these traits in your child’s teacher as well.

Personality

A great preschool teacher will have patience, enthusiasm, and creativity. Preschool teachers need to be able to understand the needs of their children, and that the link between home and school relies on great communication. Patience is crucial because preschoolers can be very energetic! They also learn at different speeds and a good preschool teacher will understand this.
Preschool teachers must also be encouraging and supportive. Children learn best when they feel loved, and safe. A preschool teacher is responsible for creating this atmosphere.

Ability to Manage a Classroom

Wrangling a room full of twelve three and four year olds is not for the faint of heart! It is a challenging job, and one that few can manage well. A good preschool teacher will be able to gain the respect of her students without using fear tactics. They are able to control their classroom while keeping things fun and educational. Their students will see them as a friend, not just an authority figure. It is a fine balance, and one that a great preschool teacher will be able to maintain.

Understands the Importance of Play

A good preschool teacher will have students who go home and say something like I had a blast at school, I played all day,“. Why is this important? It’s simple-that’s how children learn!

Experience and Education

A good preschool teacher comes with experience. Some of the best preschool teachers are those who grew up with younger siblings, have worked in camps or schools and have raised children of their own. There is no better experience than actual hands on learning. These people have that!

Good preschool teachers should be willing to complete higher education classes. They should strive to continue their education in areas like psychology, child development, and curriculum and classroom management. At Raising Arizona Preschool we make sure our staff is educated in these areas.

Dedication and a Love for Children

A good teacher loves children. They consider their job important because they are shaping young minds and hearts.  Good preschool teachers take the time to interact with the children in their classroom. They play and talk with them; they show an interest in their lives and get to know them on a personal basis.

A good preschool teacher believes in what they are doing. They care about the well-being of each child in their classroom. They consider their job important because they are shaping young minds and hearts.

These are just some of the things that make a great preschool teacher. Your children are in great hands thanks to some amazing teachers at Raising Arizona Preschool.
